Introduction to the Season
Spring season 2010
Welcome to a new decade and 11 fantastic national and international companies taking centre stage in six different spaces - including four theatres, a ballroom and a shop window! Some of the highlights this season include the highly talented Rafael Bonachela with a beautifully abstract and intensely emotive new work The Land of Yes and The Land of No. Montreal collective Les 7 Doigts de la Main [7 Fingers] burst onto the Crucible stage with the much talked about Traces; The Reeves and Mortimer of contemporary dance, better known as New Art Club! bring their hilarious new show This is Now to the HotHouse Festival and Civic Barnsley. In May DW and Sheffield Theatres are very proud to announce the ...exhilarating and breath-taking [The Guardian] return of Companhia de Dança Deborah Colker with the sensational Cruel; closely followed by the legendary Michael Clark Company with come, been and gone ...an outrageously gorgeous piece of modern dance [The Observer].
We also have some national and international family-friendly treats with Rodrigo Pardo's simple and perfectly brilliant Toilet Tango steaming up a Sheffield city centre shop window four times a day and a brand new double bill presented by Funny Bones set in the sumptuous surroundings of Sheffield City Hall's Ballroom for children 5+, their friends and families. For full programme details including the return of Rambert Dance to Sheffield Theatres and The Cholmondeleys and The Featherstonehaughs' maiden visit to the Civic Barnsley please visit the What's On Productions page.
I do hope you enjoy this Spring 2010 season and please make a note that Companhia de Dança Deborah Colker, Michael Clark Company and Funny Bones will go on sale Saturday 13 March 2010.
Best wishes
Annabel Dunbar Artistic Director, Danceworks UK
PS At the time of going to print we are still in discussions about hosting two more small scale UK works; one with Sheffield Theatres as part of the Forge Festival in the newly refurbished Studio and another with the Foundry at The University of Sheffield Union of Students. We will update you again in Spring to update you about any additions to the programme as well as soon as possible.
