Increpacion danza residency

Student participant diary - Eleanor Harvey

Tuesday 11 July 2006
Today the Increpación danza dancers came to High Storrs!  It was so good!  The dancers were really good and it was really interesting to learn a new style of dancing.  At first I thought we were just warming up and stuff but then I realised that we were gradually putting together different sections of the dance.  The dancing was quite tricky... especially with all of the different timings and little hand movements but it was really good.

Today was so much better!  Not that I didn't enjoy yesterday... but today it actually felt like I was doing an actual dance and also because I already kind of knew what we were doing so it made it a bit easier!  Montse (the dancer) is really nice... even though she doesn't speak much English we all understood her and were even talking bits of Spanish back!  Well, at least we were trying to!  Ha!ha!

Today we joined together with City School who had also been working with Increpación danza for a sharing of what we done over the week.  I really enjoyed the sharing because although we didn't know the dance perfectly it didn't matter because it was just a showing of what we had learned and how we had picked up this new style of dancing over the course of the week.  The dancers from City school were really good too and they all looked really professional!  But it was fine!  I think both schools did really well and the two dances each school learnt were different which made it all the more interesting!

All my friends who were in the class said that they had enjoyed the experience although they had expected the style to be more Flamenco than Contemporary!
