Part performance, part demonstration, part interrogation, this one-night-only
event will pull together 12 months of discovery in an exciting
evening of spontaneous madness and mayhem where everything and anything is possible...
In 2009 acclaimed choreographer Gary Clarke was appointed as an Associated Artist at Yorkshire Dance, providing him with an opportunity to develop his working methods as a creative dance maker. With the help of renowned choreographers / directors Nigel Charnock, Wendy Houstoun and Guy Dartnell, Gary forced himself out of his comfort zone and dived head first into the frantic and unpredictable world of improvisation.
Bringing together an eclectic group of dancers, choreographers and performers, Gary led a series of creative Choreo-labs which became a playground of discovery looking at how to use improvisation as a tool to create work.
The event will conclude with a lecture demonstration and question and answers session where you, as an audience, can learn more about the discovery and what happens next...

A poignant, original and funny exploration of passion and disappointment.
Devised and directed by Mish Weaver, with actor Eric MacLennan in a solo performance, Ennui L'Estrange shares his all-consuming love of circus and the sophisticated hopelessness of his obsession.
The solitary ringmaster plays with perceptions of mental ill health and performance. Ennui conjures up vivid circus performances, on film and in his imagination. We share his knowledge that no matter what, 'the show must go on.' There is no middle ground as the glitz of circus and the monochrome of depression meet head on.
Bipolar Ringmaster is a developmental precursor for a group show in 2012 in which the character will find himself the pivotal figure of a fully fledged Bipolar Circus, presented by Stumble.
The project is principally funded by the National Lottery through the Olympic Lottery Distributor, and is delivered in partnership between London 2012, Arts Council England, the Creative Scotland, Arts Council of Wales, Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the British Council.

some of the latest developments in small scale contemporary dance in the UK.
New work from Yorkshire, Scotland, the North West and the North East will be presented in the platform, followed by a chance for the audience to find out more about the work directly from the artists.
We are delighted to be hosting three dance-acts from Scotland, the North West and the North East, courtesy of agencies Dance City (Newcastle), DiGM (Manchester) and Dance Base (Edinburgh) whose presence will also contribute to the post show discussion.
Several studio sharings will accompany the platform: inviting audiences to a different relationship with the performance by being in a flexible space.
Hang out in our foyer with a drink, meet artists young and old, experienced and new and dip your toes in this sizzling collection of new work that is likely to move, tickle and surprise
