What is Generate
Generate is a key development strand of Danceworks' programme 2008 - 11 which aims to:
- Produce, present and promote innovative national & international dance works that are family friendly.
- Introduce children (7-11), their teachers and families to dance as an art form through creative sessions led by inspirational artists combined with trips to see the family friendly performances.
Generate is a phased project originally shaped by a highly successful pilot in 2006/7 run by Danceworks and collaborators, designed to take participants (children, their families, teachers, artists and audiences) and partners (venues, funders and politicians) on a transformative cultural journey placing at its core inspirational national and international dance performance in a range of traditional and non traditional spaces.
Since 2006 we have tried and tested demand and craft through co-producing and
presenting Fairy Tale by Vincent Dance Theatre, a small scale work in 2006, Mischief by Theatre Rites & Arthur Pita in 2007 as part of the Dance Touring Partnership UK middle scale network of
venues and the outdoor spectacle Transport Exceptionnels by Beau Geste in 2008 in partnership with Dance Umbrella and Sheffield City Council.
Between 2006 and 2008 we worked with over 600 children (7 - 11), their teachers
and families; 5,309 people
of all ages attended 3 family friendly shows presented, clearly telling us they
wanted more high quality work for young people and families.
