Background information
Short Back and Sides is a contemporary dance theatre company co-directed by acclaimed performer/choreographer TC Howard and composer/sound-designer Matthew Bugg.

Working with Danceworks UK, Nottingham Playhouse, Sheffield Theatres and the Jerwood Studio at Sadler's Wells* Short Back and Sides are creating Paper Mountain, a middle scale piece for family audiences with a cast of 8 performers.

Paper Mountain will tell the story of a young boy as he deals with the loss of his mother.  Original music, exquisite and dynamic choreography, puppets, theatrical trickery and an intricate set and lighting design will all come together to take us on a journey that is both heartbreaking and humorous, terrifying and tender.

For information about the work go to Paper Mountain.

This is a research phase and the resulting research will be shown on the 12th October 2010 at Sheffield Theatres for feedback from promoters, producers and children aged 7+ and their families.  It is anticipated that there will be a full production period in Spring 2011, with a premiere in Summer 11 and touring in Autumn 2011/Spring 2012.

*With additional support and funding from Danceworks, Sheffield Theatres, Jerwood Studio at Sadler's Wells, Nottingham Playhouse, New College Nottingham, Arts Council England Yorkshire, Sheffield City Council and Esmee Fairbairn Foundation.
