The windows of an empty space in the centre of Sheffield will get very steamed up this spring as Rodrigo Pardo converts the space into a one square metre bathroom to present his much acclaimed Toilet Tango.  Last performed in the UK as part of Dance Umbrella 2008, given four stars by The Guardian and described as ... a gem of Street Theatre.

Pardo works beautifully with the intense drama of tango as he swings his partner in a passionate duet.  The tiny space forces the couple to improvise wildly, from straddling the sink to balancing on the toilet, with inevitable moments of comedy.  This is a neat, crowd pleasing and very special 10 minute tango to be performed four times a day...

Toilet Tango supports and celebrates Sheffield as one of the shortlisted cities bidding to become UK City of Culture for 2013.

These empty window space performances of Toilet Tango in a new and non-traditional theatre space in partnership with Sheffield City Council will launch the next phase of our cultural project Generate, to which Rodrigo Pardo's Toilet Tango is central.  This international FREE family-event is a follow on from the sensational performances by Beau Geste on Devonshire Green Autumn '08.

Toilet Tango performance space provided by CTP St James.  David Topham, director of CTP, the developers of St Paul's Place, commented "We are delighted to support this exciting event.  It is a good opportunity to bring people into the re-opened square and will showcase the space to the public and to prospective tenants.  In addition we are always keen to partner Sheffield-based organizations, especially in the arts field, and we believe this initiative will raise the profile and perception of Sheffield both nationally and internationally."
